Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Another lift, the MWH Atlas range, incorporates two and three post lifts suitable for use with commercial vehicles and buses. -The capital cost of an Atlas lift, fully installed, is comparable to the provision of a fitted out pit," says MWH.

Atlas lifts can be supplied complete, ready for installation and use, in a water-tight pan which is lowered into a narrow trench and filled in again afterwards. There is no need for shuttering. All that is required is for the surrounding floor to be concreted to a depth of one foot and made good.

Some Atlas lifts can be installed in an existing pit. Their below ground depth is 1.35m providing a lifting height of 1.60m.

MWH claim advantages over pits, mobile column and four posts lifts. They say the risk of accidents to people and vehicles is dramatically reduced.

The lift can be tilted to the required degree, and at the right height, for work on wheels or brakes, dropping out a rear axle or for work on the engine or gearbox. According to MWH there is no job on a vehicle, whether two, three or multiple axle, for which MWH lifts are not suited. MWH lifts can be set up ready for work at the height to suit the individual mechanic, and the vehicle he's working on.

MWH Atlas lifts incorporate electro-hydraulic drive units mounted in the water-tight enclosure complete with hydraulic fluid tank, motor and twin gear pump and only have to be connected to a 415 volt, 3phase electricity supply. These hydraulic units are not exposed to dirt or dust and so are less susceptible to breakdowns and need less maintenance than electro-mechanically operated lifts.

The lifts are controlled either by double press button controls on a fixed switch cabinet or from a mobile remote control unit. The solid steel rams are hard chromed to guard against accidental damage.

If a pipe bursts or any fluid leakage occurs the safety valve closes immediately and the lift remains rigidly in position. Then, by opening the safety valve, the load will move down while the current valve ensures that it does not drop too quickly. By adjusting the current valve the fitter can control the lowering speed so that the vehicle is lowered gently.
