SECRETARY of State for Transport Nicholas Ridley has named the board members for London Regional Transport which took over the responsibility for London Transport services and operations on June 26.

As predicted the London Transport Executive board members appointed by the Greater London Council, have all been replaced. But four full-time members of the LTE board have all been appointed to the LRT board. Dr Keith Bright has been appointed as the first LRT chairman. The two LT managing directors, Dr David Quarmby and Dr Tony Rudley with Ian Phillips, formerly of the LT board with responsibility for finance have all been appointed to the board. Full-time LT board member Arthur Latham and all of the GLC part-time members have been replaced by seven newcomers.

David Hardy, a chartered accountant has been named as LRT deputy chairman on a parttime basis. The new part-time members are Keith Brown, an investment analyst and stockbroker; Miss Eileen Cole, chairman and chief executive of Unilever's commercial research subsidiary; Dr Stephen Glaister of the London School of Economics; Simon Jenkins a former editor of the Evening Standard; Kenneth Joyner LT Property Board chairman and managing director of Worldwide Estates; Mrs Helen Robinson of the British Airport Authority design committee; Miss Patricia Steel, secretary of the Institution of Highways and Transportation.
