At its meeting in London on Tuesday the Transport Association elected A. C. Nokes (Grantham Road Services Ltd) as chairman. He succeeds David McVeigh. K. A. Beresford (Beresford Transport Ltd) has been elected to succeed J. Stone (D. B. Hicks Ltd) as vice-chairman.

Len Rogers, dispatch director of Alpine Refrigerated Deliveries Ltd, which distributes Lyons Maid ice cream and Findus frozen foods, has retired.

Douglas Leslie Turner will become deputy general manager. City of Cardiff Transport, in succession to R. H. Jones, who retires on eptember 30. Mr Turner is currently traffic superintendent, Southport Corporation Transport. Mr Jones joined Cardiff City Transport in 1937. He is chairman of the traffic committee of the Association of Public Passenger Transport Operators.

Gordon Charles Morley has been appointed to the board d William Nuttall Transport Ltd. Mr Morley was the founder and principal of the business of International Freight Forwarding and Shipping Agents which is now carried on by G. C. Morley Ltd, of which he is managing director, recently acquired by William Nuttall.

George Major, general manager of Red and White Services Ltd — an NBC subsidiary company — will retire on September 30 after 44 years in the industry.

John Dennis, marketing services manager of British Leyland truck and bus division, is joining Ailsa Trucks Ltd as marketing manager on August 1 and will, initially, be based at Ailsa's new North of England office at Altrincham, Cheshire. Mr Dennis was news editor of Commercial Motor when he left to join AEC. When the company merged with Leyland Motors he became deputy group publicity manager (commercial vehicles) of the Leyland Motor Corporation, moving to publicity manager of British Leyland's truck and bus division in 1968; for the past 18 months he has been marketing services manager. Ron Cater, who was also with CM, before joining Ailsa Trucks as promotion manager, has been appointed engineering manager. His responsibilities include test and evaluation of experimental vehicles; legal requirements: liaison with bodybuilders' progress; and operation of the demonstration fleet.

David D. Sieff, 33, director of personnel of Marks and Spencer, has been appointed a part-time member of the board of the National Freight Corporation.

M. G. Steanes will become public relations manager of Girling Ltd on August 1 following the retirement of J. H. Irving.

G. Brown has been appointed manager. Edinburgh branch, BRS Parcels Ltd. He was previously manager, Kirkcaldy.

Five senior appointments to the National Bus Company's new Central Activities Group were announced on Monday. W. Adams, Southdown tours manager since 1960, has been made NBC planning manager (tours); R. C. Anderson, who progressed from Crosville traffic trainee to traffic manager of East Yorkshire, is the new operations manager: I. G. B. Milligan, publicity officer of NBC, becomemarketing manager (express services): E. M. Prichard, also an NBC publicity officer. becomes advertising manager (tours); and G. A. Webb, traffic manager of Associated Motorways, becomes planning manage (express services).

Peter B. Neal has joined Ranks Hovis Mc Dougall Ltd as chief executive of its moto companies. Mr Neal has for many year worked for the Ford Motor Co Ltd. mos recently as sales operation manager of th truck sales division.

Geoffrey Fernyhough, director and general manager of London Country Bus Services Ltd — an NBC subsidiary company — is retiring in October after 42 years in the Industry. Mr Fernyhough, who joined the London General Omnibus Company in 1930, became Divisional superintendent for the northern area for London Transport (Country Buses anc Coaches) in 1951. and operating manager foi the Country Buses and Coaches Departmeni in 1954. He took up his present position or January 1 1970 at the vesting of the nem company.

Donald Hackett, indus trial engineer for Unite( , Carriers, the expres parcels company, is mov ing from the company' West Midlands divisioi at Walsall Wood t Wellingborough as par of a policy to centraliz key personnel at hq. Mr Hackett is responsibl for new depot projects, including the installc tion of mechanical handling systems.

Following the resignation of W. A. Neate t enter business in Scotland, G. F. Stokes ha been appointed managing director of Neat Brake Controls Ltd. E. A. W. Gamblin ha been appointed director in charge of technic developments and production. R. W. J. Neat continues as chairman and consultan Denis H. Langton has been appointed work director of Oldham and Son Ltd.

James Glendinning, vice-president of She Enterprises, Japan, will become a fulltirr member of London Transport Executive if GLC committee recommendation is approve by the council. He will succeed H. J. H. I H ildreth.

A. E. Martin, managing director of Glost Saro Ltd, and S. W. Gillies, managir director of Saro Products Ltd, have joined tlboard of Hawker Siddeley Holdings Ltd, subsidiary of Hawker Siddeley Group Ltd.

John W. Ray has been appointed chairma of the Chloride Group's automotive divisio He is also general manager of Chloric Automotive, Batteries Ltd.

D. Curtis, general manager, industri marketing, Mobil Oil" Co Ltd, will t undertaking an overseas assignment later th year and will be succeeded by Curtis f Johnson, until recently aviation manager Mobil's North American Division.
