• Dunlop Ltd has expressed to Mr Eldon Griffiths, Under-Secretary, Department of the Environment, its concern at his recent remarks in the Commons concerning antijack-knife devices (as reported by CM on June 30).
The company's product development director, Mr Peter Ware, has written to tell Mr Griffiths that he cannot believe that Mr Peyton, Minister for Transport Industries, shares the reported views about antijack-knife devices, since the Minister recently witnessed a demonstration of Maxaret.
Mr Ware stresses that some 600 sets of Dunlop anti-jack-knife equipment have covered about 50m miles without revealing serious weaknesses. (Mr Griffiths had told the House that trials of anti-jack-knife devices, of un-named type, had shown up weaknesses, leading to further trials.) Mr Ware has also reminded the DoE of the Road Research Laboratory's favourable comments on Maxaret's anti-jack-knife performance.
