Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Toby Clark • There were some dramatic moves in the CV market last year, judging by the yearend registration figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Industry leaders have been quick to comment on the 16% upturn in the market for heavy vehicles-the best figures since 1989. They also point out the many factors which have distorted sales, including uncertainty about VED rates, the hangover from the introduction of Euro-2 legislation and a consumer boom late in the year.

Few people expect this year to be as strong as 1998: Iveco Ford predicts a truck market of just below 50,000 (see analysis, opposite), while Leyland Daf is more pessimistic, predicting a year-end figure of between 43,000 and 48,000.
