Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Among the first appointments was R. J. Smart, who will take over as executive director responsible for matters "of a strategic and major policy nature," including group purchasing, Leyland Truck and Bu's Ireland, and military sales. He was previously managing director.

Reporting directly to Mr Smart will be the general managers of the five business divisions. Three of the managers have been appointed, with the remaining positions to be filled later.

Harold Musgrove was named general manager of the medium/light vehicle division. He was previously operations director for the Leyland and Southall plants.

The parts division general manager is to be Dennis Benson, currently the general parts manager for Truck and Bus.

And Joe McGowan has been appointed general manager of the engineering back-up to the three vehicle divisions. He was previously director of engineering and development.

In addition, five group directorates were created under the new organisational structure.

Frank Saundry is personnel director, a position he previously held with the Group. He joined the company in 1968 as company secretary.

John Davidson is to become director of quality assurance, responsible for the quality standards of all Truck and Bus products. He is currently quality director.

The new director of planning is Dr Malachy McIntyre, previously with Sperry-Univac. He will be responsible for the development of a business planning base for Truck and Bus.

Merseyside Transport has announced the retirement of Robert McMillan, long-time principal customer relations officer with the firm. In his position he was responsible for publicity, advertising and general passenger information.

Another retirement was announced by the Nestle Company Ltd. J. C. (Jack) Aldridge, manager, transportation services, has retired after 38 years with the firm. He is a member of the national council of the Freight Transport Association and vicechairman of the Greater London division of that body.

Angus Murray, deputy chairman of Crane Fruehauf, has been named the new chairman. He succeeds L. H. Allwood, who held that post for 16 years.

Camel Freight Ltd, specialist freight forwarders to the Middle East, have a new managing director. He is Col J. J. L. Thorpe MBE, who took over the appointment on January 1.

We note with regret the death of David Callendar, aged 62. Well known in Scottish haulage circles, he was in business all his life in Forfar. He was, until recently, proprietor of Kings Quarries of Forfar.
