5,830 Vehicles With Premises for Sale in March : Can Now be Inspected

EARLY in March the British Transport Commission will offer for sale

149 general-haulage operational depots in England and Wales, with 5,830 vehicles. They will include all the depots remaining for disposal but not previously listed, as well as some that have been offered before but not sold.

British Road Services will retain depots in at least 76 places in England and Wales. They reserve the right to compete with the buyers of the depots to be offered for sale.

A booklet describing the arrangements was published on Wednesday. It is entitled "Road Haulage Disposal in England and Wales," and copies can be obtained from the Road Haulage Disposal Board, Clive House, Petty France, London, S.W.I, or the British Transport Commission, 222 Marylebone Road, London, N.W.1.

Certain depots cannot be offered. because the Commission propose to retain them, because they are in the precincts of premises belonging to other parts of the Commission's undertaking, or because they are engaged on special work. Each depot for sale will constitute a separate unit.

Detailed catalogues, giving particulars of the vehicles and property, and of conditions pf sale, will be available when the list is published officially in March. The assets can; however, be inspected before that time by applying to the B.R.S. divisional manager.

No Parcels Depots No parcels depots are concerned in the present arrangements, because the whole of the parcels network has been transferred to B.R.S. (Parcels), Ltd.

With an average of 39 vehicles per unit, the largest to he offered will include 200 vehicles and the smallest six. The 200-vehicle unit is that at Littlempre, Oxford, which has already failed to find a buyer. It is used mainly for work in connection with the motor industry.

B.T.C. SPIKE R.H.A.'s GUNS ON DISPOSAL

BYpublishing on Wednesday their plans for the disposal of depots as transport units, the British Transport Commission spiked the guns of the deputation from the Road Haulage Association who, that day, interviewed the Minister of Transport on disposal.

One of the main points to be pressed by the Association was that large lots of vehicks with premises should be sold in companies formed under Section 5 of the 1953 Act and not as transport units. They were, however( presented by the Commission with a fait accompli.

The deputation expressed concern over the slow progress of disposal.

M. AND, D. FARES TO RISE?

LT was inevitable that an application to raise fares would have to be made by Maidstone and District Motor Services, Ltd., said Mr. W. M. Comers, general manager, on Wednesday. The new wages award would cost the company and its associates over £100,000 a year, and this sum could not be met from current revenue. • MORE MONEY FOR LEEDS THE Yorkshire Licensing Authority on Tuesday granted in full an application by Leeds Transport Depart ment to raise fares. The increases, which will take effect from January 30, will add 017,000 to the revenue.

PONTYPRIDD TO SUPPORT BILL

THE private Member's Bill seeking to legalize certain concession fares on buses is to be supported by Pontypridd Urban District Council, who recently suspended their concession scheme for old-age pensioners.

SC2 NEXT WEEK MEXT Wednesday, the British Transport Commission will publish List SC2, in which will be re-offered a small number of units in Scotland.
