• Further news is to hand concerning the Crawley-Garrett plough, to which we referred in these columns on 11th June, 1914. It may be re111 ernbered as having been exhibited at the Suffolk Show in 1914; it was also on the list for the Royal, but, if we recall correctly, it failed to put in an appearance there.

Since that date, considerable improvements and refinements have been embodied, although, in general, the principle remains unaltered. We understand that Mr. Crawley has three of these ploughs in constant use on his own farm. The results of his experience, naturally, are utilized for the benefit of the machine.

It may be recalled that this machine is of the self-contained type, engined by what is described as a 25 h.p. petrol engine. Normally, three shares are carried, and on average ground, with a depth of furrow equal to that normally ploughed, it is said to be capnble of turning over rather more than half an acre per hour. The petrol consumption, under these circumstances, works out. at rather more than two gallons per acre. On a certain occasion. recently, 166 acres were ploughed, and a con

sumption of lab gallons was noted. The oil used amounts to one pint per day.. It is interesting to note that any type of plough-share can be used, but that owing to the speed of traverse, four miles per hour, it is advisable to use one with a long, deep breast. On easy ground it is feasible to attach two other ploughs behind this machine, which is thus capable of turning five furrows at a time. On the other hand, if ground must be curItivated in a hurry, by attaching a harrow to the side of the frame, ploughing and harrowing may be performed simultaneously
