Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

We are well satisfied that it is desirable, by reason of definite information and requests from commanding officers of the A.S.C., M.T., in France and Belgium, to aim at a total of £5000 for our "Campaign Comforts" Fund. This sum is much in excess of any necessity which we contemplated even so short a tune ago as the beginning of December, but in these days one must be prepared to alter one's views according to circumstances. We find that the circumstances which justify such a change of objective do exist, and we have therefore extended our plans. We publish a further list of donations, on pages 360 to 362, covering the 11 week-days from the 21st and 31st ult. inclusive. We hope to make space in our next issue to publish the additional donations to, say, Saturday, the 16th inst. We desire to invite special attention to the apparent establishment of a one-per-cent. unit of maximum subscription, i.e., £50 towards our ultimate total of 25000. We do not wish it to be said hereafter that any individual member of the motor industry, or any single firm or company in that6 industry, has supported our Fund disproportionately, or at any undue cost to themselves, having regard to the many other calls upon all of them in other directions connected with war effects. We have, therefore, when discussing voluntary offers of further assistance with some of the donors, or when seeking additional donations at the hands of others, drawn attention to this maximum. whilst in at least one case, we have already returned an excess subscription. Not a few names have yet to be included. There is, it may be remarked, a sufficient number of subscriptions coming from other than trade sources, including users of commercial motors all over the United Kingdom, A.S.C. canteens etc., for us not to have occasion to seek a total of 100 individual gifts of £50 each, but we are hopeful that other§leading members of the motor and allied industries, not excepting the tire-making industry., which is doing such a splendid business at the present time, will at an early date help us towards placing on record a total of perhaps 50 such individual gifts in cash. The object is a worthy one.

It cannot be too frequently recalled, that fully 75 per cent. of the men of the A.S.C., MT., were taken from civilian employment direct to hard campaigning, and that they will come back in due course to their respective branches of commercial motoring. They will undoubtedly then remember with kindly feelings those who showed an active interest in them while they were taking part in the war.
