THE NUMBER ONE PRIORITY for the DoE this year was to press for an amendment in the EEC drivers' hours regulations, said Mr T. L. Beagley, Deputy Secretary for Transport Industries, on Tuesday.

It is understood that he was referring to the negotiations within the Community, aimed at liberalizing EEC Regulation 543/69 which, as it stands, will among other things have the effect of reducing drivers' hours in the UK from 10 hours to eight from the beginning of next year.
