Rail to Road for Livestock : Farmers must give strong support to livestock vehicle licensing applications it was said last week at a Perth area meeting of the Scottish N.F.U. The meeting approved a resolution telling Bit. of the serious view taken of proposed rail livestock rates increases—up to 50 per cent—and the proposer, Mr. A. S. McLaren, said that in the past 11 months, 1,055 rail truck toads of cattle had left Glasgow for other parts of Scotland but these would now become lorry loads. Haulier Fined: At Leeds Assizes last week, after an 11-day hearing, Harold Atkinson, James V. Wainwright and Harold Atkinson Ltd. were each found guilty of conspiring to contravene the Road Traffic Act, 1960. On a fourth charge of conspiracy they were found not guilty and Wainwright, a foreman driver, was found not guilty on a charge of making a false statement and was bound over for two years. Atkinson, a Doncaster haulier, was fined £300 and ordered to pay £300 costs and his company had to pay similar amounts.
