Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

North-Western IVILitiensing Authority, urged the importance of research in road transport at the first dinner and dance of the Liverpool Area Traffic Managers' Club.

He said that transport managers ought to be in a position to advise customers on how to improve their methods and so reduce the cost of transport. He knew that operators were "sitting on top of a bonfire," because of the threat of nationalization, but for those who would be left in the haulage industry, operating distances of 25 miles and under, the potentialities of articulated vehicles were enormous.

Mr. C. J. de Burgh, M.I.Mech.E., president, Liverpool Area of the Transport Managers' Club and Liverpool Area Road Haulage Officer, said that transport managers had now reached • the stage when they could claim professional status. Salesmen were always regarded as the "blue-eyed boys" of industry, but it was the transport manager who put the goods on the customer's doorstep. If the transport manager failed to do his job efficiently, the salesman did not get a repeat order.
