Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN accompanying picture shows a four-horse box recently completed by Carrimore Six-wheelers, Ltd., North Finchley, London, for T. Hawkins and Sons (Epsom), Ltd., Epsom. Surrey.

The interior is •arranged for two horses to face the direction of travel and two face rearwards, with a groom at the head of each animal. The horses enter the box from the off side, on which there are two spring-loaded ramps. Each section weighs about 6 cwt., but as the weight is carefully balanced against the springs, raising and lowering can be carried out by'a boy.

The grooms can keep in touch with the driver through a signalling system, as the rear grooms cannot go forward while the vehicle is travelling. • , "CAVALCADE OF ENTERPRISE" fiORE, than 50,000 buses carry over IV130.000,000 passengers and run about 4;000,000 miles a day. The road passenger 'transport industry pays over £2,000000 a year in licences.

These facts emerge from "Cavalcade Of Enterprise," a booklet which has just been published by the British Omnibus Companies' Public Relations Committee. It traces, in picture and story, the growth of the bus industry, and the case against nationalization is nicely stated in verse.

INEXPENSIVE PORTABLE METAL SHEARS

RECOMMENDED for use on bars up

to 2 ins, by in., plate up to 10 s.w.g. and rod up to I in., a metal-cutting shears, known as the Hilshear, has returned to the market. The manufacturer is Hills (Patents), Ltd., Hills House. Chenies Mews, Pancras Street, London, W.C.1.

The tool, which costs £5 17s. 6d, (trade price), is operated by gearing, which enables the power applied to be stepped up six times. Not only will the tool do in seconds what a hacksaw does in minutes, it is stated, but it combines all the functions of the ordinary fixed hand-guillotine, with most of those of the boltcropper and tinsnip.

It is, however, highly mobile and can be taken to the job, gripped in a vice, clamped to a girder, fitted in an anvil or

used with two handles. It is stated to cut without burrs and will even cut 45degree bevels if required. Every Hilshear is tested to take two cuts from 2-in, by i-in. mild steel bar and then a clean cut from tissue paper.
