FROM January I the price of a six-monthly entry permit to London's New Covent Garden fruit and vegetable market will increase from 07.50 to 1:50, but the casual entry charge remains 2.

The Covent Garden Market Authority says that the increase restores the charge to its real price level in _My 1980. If a permit holder visits the market daily the average charge he incurs is still less than 40p.

• Trading arrangements at the market over Christmas and the New Year are as follows: On Christmas Eve and December 30 and 31 there will be normal trading hours in the fruit and vegetable market and the flower market. On December 23 and 26 and January I. both markets will be closed.

Both markets will be Open until 9ain on December 21, and on Ikcember 27 both markets will be open.
