Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Fire Brigade Committee of Guildford is considering the advisability of purchasing a motor fireen gin e.

A fire occurred at Bartley Manor House, near Lyndhurst in the New Forest, recently. The local manual turned out, but the engine got out of order and water had to be carried by hand. The Southampton Brigade was then summoned by telephone. A motor fire-engine in this district is a necessity.

Rural and Town Councils Disagree.

At a recent meeting of the Romsey (Hants.) Rural Council it was reported that an application had been made to the Local Government Board for authority to purchase a motor fire-engine for the sum of 2725. The application was refused. It appears that the Parish Councils have decided to purchase the motor engine, but the Town Conned has now "hacked out," and wants the rural council to buy the engine. An application is to be made to the L.G.B. Motorization of the Magdeburg Fire.Brigade.

Magdeburg having greatly increased in girth of late, the magistracy has deemed it necessary to lose no time in motorizing at least. a section of the firebrigade, and, by way of a beginning, Neustadt station has been equipped with a set of electricallydriven vehicles consisting of a gas engine, a steam engine, and an escape. Their several motors develop 35 h.p., and can give a speed of 25 miles an hour on level roads. In each case, hub-motors in the front wheels are employed. A small electromotor, fed from the driving battery, serves to extend the telescopic escape, the length of which, when fully extended, measures 76 ft. Since 1905, however., Magdeburg has been in possession of a steam-driven engine

of 17 lop. This is a slow coach started up with paraffin, and doing no more than 10 miles an hour. The ambulance service is controlled by the fire-brigade. Long Turbine Run.

Chief Officer A. R. Tozer, of the Birmingham brigade, reports a stiff job at Messrs. Kynoen's works on 'Wednesday, the 6th inst., when. a Dennis turbine fire-engine was pumping for 144 hours through 500 yds. of delivery hose, with a in jet. It stopped only three times for burst lengths of hose, and once to change her position. Mr. Tozer very naturally asks: " Is not this a record I " West Ham Follows L.C.C.

Dennis Bros., Ltd., has recently supplied a 350-gallon DennisGwynne turbine motor fire-engine to the West Ham Corporation.

This is practically a duplicate of the n engines supplied to the London Fire Brigade. Pumping tests have been made on Wanstea,d Flats in the presence of the Mayor and several members of the Cor

poration. The tests were highly satisfactory to all parties ; the new machine is now in service.
