Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Sally Nash • North Yorkshire police have launched a campaign to crack down on drivers parking overnight in laybys on the Al.

Drivers are vulnerable to theft and are at risk from being hit by other drivers, claims traffic policeman Terry Arundel. He is trying to encourage drivers to use the two secure lorry parks in the area at Barton and Londonderry.

"Recently I had to wake a driver to tell him his entire trailer had been written off by another lorry—if the other driver had been another foot to the right he would have killed the man asleep in his cab."

Until the end of October, police will slap a warning leaflet on any vehicle parked without lights on a trunk road lay-by.

From November 1, drivers flouting the law will face £20 fines.
