Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A victim of truck theft says the manufacturer of his failed tracking system demanded £30 before it would tell him why the equipment did not work.

Although the vehicle was recovered, haulier David Canne11 says it was no thanks to the Tracker Network unit fitted last August at a cost of over £350.

Cannel] reported the theft of a 1991 Scania 360, with a Crane Fruehauf 40ft triaxle trailer from his yard on the West Pomvay Industrial Estate, Andover, on Sunday 3 August.

Tracker was activated that afternoon, but it failed, and Cannell heard nothing more until Friday, when the vehicle was found by chance in Stratford, East London.

"I then collected the vehicle before I told Tracker it had been found, and drove it right across London passing six police cars,"

says Cannel]. -None of them stopped me."

Cannell says he is taking Tracker out of the vehicle and will probably replace it with the

rival Securicor Trakl3ak System, despite an apology and the offer of a free audit.

But Tracker's chairman Ralph Kanter still hopes to keep his custom.

"We don't claim a 100% success rating, but the figure is in the 90s," he says. "We certainly won't charge a fee to inspect a vehicle in these circumstances; we're more likely to give Mr Cannel! his money back and fit a new system."
