DAVID WATSON Transport says “common sense has prevailed” after it managed to overturn a legally binding agreement forcing its leet of lorries on an unneces sary 44-mile round trip, costing his business thousands of pounds.
The haulier occupies a site in Brandon, Suffolk that had an historic Section 106 Agreement attached to it, preventing HGVs travelling down the high street. It meant the company’s lorries had a 22-mile detour to reach the A14 10 miles away. Boss David Watson calculated the ban was costing £67,000 a year in fuel and drivers’ wages. He applied for an amendment to the agreement and despite objections from residents and local councils, Breckland Council has found in his favour.
“Every other company in the country could go through Brandon High Street except us, which seemed to be an unfair rule,” he says.
