Centres in its annual report that during the war works canteens have largely become centres of propaganda, and that this is a /natter which deserves the attention of directors of industrial undertakings. The aim should be to ensure that they are not employed to foment political agitation, but to help good relations. It is believed that it would be to the advantage of employers if they could consult one another about canteen costs, legal,. nutritional and other technical matters in this field. Incidentally, membership of the Society, of which Sit Francis Joseph, Bart., is president, is open to employe,rs.who run their own canteens.

MOT so much is heard these 1 '4 days of battery, ', dopes, which were often brought for
ward in pre-war years. The president of the American Battery Manufacturers is calling attention to what he terms a " racket" that is sweeping that country with such materials, which are often flour, Epsom salts and other kinds of white powder, marketed as a panacea for all battery troubles. Battery makers and the U.S. Bureau of Standards emphasize that such compounds and solutions have no merit, whilst the former add that if a satisfactory substance ever became available, they would provide it as standard "equipment."
