Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ASTRIKING proof of the value of the easychange gearbox is afforded by the British success in the great 1,000-mile road race in Italy. The Wilson gearbox is also giving excellent service on buses in which it is used in conjunction with the Daimler Fluid Flywheel. The combination relieves drivers of much physical strain.

IN view of the fact that many municipalities run

both petrol and oil-engined buses it is interesting to note that the savings effected by the latter at Halifax approximately offset the extra cost caused by the most recent rise in the petrol prices. IN a recent report of a fatal accident, the cause was wrongly stated to be the bursting of a 9-in.section tyre. This might lead people to assume that such tyres are dangerous. Actually, it was a retaining ring which blew off while the tyre was being fitted and inflated.

WE are glad that something is being done to avoid

the possibility of commercial-vehicle operators experiencing heavy losses through the failure of companies with which they have taken out insurance policies. In one case, claims to the value of many thousands of pounds were not met. ON the whole, It can be said that automatic traffic lights are working satisfactorily, Their primary value, however, in speeding-up the flow of traffic can be partially negatived if drivers stop their vehicles, for loading and unloading, directly in front of them, thus impeding the vision of other road users. The trouble is much aggravated when several vehicles are drawn up behind one another, especially if they be large-capacity vans or be carrying high loads.

SURFEIT of regulations is not at any time de sirable, but it does seem that some means should be devised to ensure that, at all times, the reading of traffic lights is not hampered. The question of collisions, too, arises, especially where lights can easily 'be discerned from one road, and not from another which intersects it. AN important step towards the stabilization of haulage rates would be the printing of definite scales of rates from which the issuing firms would not deviate. Such a scale has been issued by Ryburn United Transport, Ltd., of Bradford. It concerns express services and applies mainly to the carriage of small packages.

IT was not a happy idea to hold a meeting of all those residents of Croydon who were injured, last year, by motor. vehicles. The object was to urge legislation to make the roads safer for pedestrians, but it is difficult to believe that any good could result from such an exhibition. It is regrettable that the Pedestrians Assoeiation should have connected itself with such a meeting which was, in our opixion, not in the best of taste.
