Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Scania

The shortage of high-quality trucks has led Scania dealer West Pennine to expand into municipals, trailers — and cars. Steve Banner reports.

With late-plate used stock increasingly scarce, many dealers are having to diversify into unfamiliar areas simply to have something to sell. "We acquired and sold some 02 and 52-registered Johnston roadsweepers recently," says Stuart Wolstenhome of Manchester Scania dealership West Pennine."Several of them went to waste-management companies and one went to a bak ery They fetched £13,000 to £14,000 each.

"We've been selling used fridge trailers too; normally we wouldn't have the space for them," he continues."We disposed of a batch of 10 1997-vintage Schmitz triaxles with Carrier fridge units and around 20 with tandem-axles all from 26f1 to 34ft -made by Schmitz and Montracon and dating back as far as 1995. We've just got another batch of 10 triaxles in."

Ready to look at vans

West Pennine has sold one or two executive cars as well. and Wolstenholme says he would also be willing to consider stocking used vans.

He is certainly willing to retail makes of truck if he cannot get enough Scanias."We've sold Volvos and 03 and 04-registered Daf CF85s and XF95s," he says.

"Frankly we'll look at anything."•
