Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HAULIERS DELIVERING to Birmingham city centre are set to benefit from a £2.7m investment in one of the area’s major commuter routes, the A45. The link between Birmingham and Coventry provides access to the M42 and serves as the main road to Birmingham airport, Birmingham Business Park and the NEC.

Growth along the A45/M42 corridor is predicted to be a driver of the economy in the area.

Proposal improvements include: carriageway widening to ease congestion hotspots at major junctions; kerb realignment and build-outs; optimisation of existing traffic lights; lighting improvements; and introducing red lines to replace yellow lines.

Despite the red route, a council spokesman tells CM that it should not affect deliveries to city businesses as loading provision will remain in place. He says the red route is necessary to standardise the many parking rules on the A45.

Road Haulage Association regional director Nick Payne says: “[We] would campaign to ensure that delivery bays are maintained and the red route must not interfere with day-to-day deliveries to local business.”
