Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

HAVE been reading with great interest the many articles concerning 0-licences, including the "Look after your own licence" letter of the week and the "A is for audit" article (CM 8 September), as well as the Insider Knowledge piece (CM 15 September).

I agree with most of the points raised and yes, the onus is on the operator to remain legal.

However, there is reluctance by companies to use consultants because of the belief that a transport manager should have all the know ledge. There should be no stigma attached in using consultants to help in areas where that knowledge may be lacking.

A large percentage of our client base contacts us when problems arise with VOSA and the Traffic Commissioner, rather than on a proactive or preventative basis. It should not be perceived as 'wrong' for a haulage or logistics company to seek expert advice.

We are in the age of vehicle recognition systems as used by VOSA which target hauliers with a 'history', with continuous updates in legislation.

There is much pressure on an operator and transport/logistics managers to keep their operation road legal and away from public enquiries, while still running an efficient operation.
