POLICE IN EAST Yorkshire have issued a security warning to hauliers following a massive theft of diesel.

According to police reports, a gang broke into the premises of Paul Headley Transport of Driffield in an overnight raid, switching off security alarms and lights before stealing the diesel.

In a sophisticated operation, the gang siphoned off more than 6,000 litres of diesel from the 14 trucks in the yard.

A spokesman for Humberside Police, appealing for witnesses to come forward, says that all haulage companies in the area should now double-check their security in case the gang strike again.

The spokesman adds:"A vast amount of diesel has been stolen from these trucks al least 6,500 litres. The persons must have used either a very large vehicle or several vehicles to commit this crime, so witnesses may have seen something suspicious in the area."

If anyone has any information about the theft, they should contact Humberside police on 0845 606 0222.
