Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Times are tough in the used trailer market, reckons Rod Pybus of Scotch Corner trailer dealership SDC Northern.

"We find that we are pedaling twice as hard to go half the distance," he observes. "It's pretty clear that people are hanging on to their existing trailers, patching them up, and making do, rather than replacing them.

"We're moving some skeletals and even the odd tipper, but sales of curtainsiders are really slow," he continues. "There's a glut of them on the market at the moment.

"As for brick and block trailers, I could find 20 of them by teatime without any trouble at all."

Trailer prices are dropping as a consequence, he reports.

'About 12 months ago, 1 could have got about Cl 0,000 for a two-year-old sliding skellie," Pybus reveals. 'Now they're selling at more like 28,500."

New sales are tough gong too, he says, with some customers cancelling orders. Pybus remains upbeat, though. He's seen recessions before, knows the market is cyclical, and that an upswing will eventually make its presence felt.

'It will be mid to late 2009 before things return to where they should be," he says.
