Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Given that, for some, building a new truck park for HGV drivers is about as wetcome as announcing the construction of a local hospital for infectious diseases, you can't help but feel sorry for Newhaven Port and Properties.

It only wants to build one for 10 trucks. We could understand the concern if it were for a 100, but 10?

At a time when the industry is crying out for safe, secure parking, one can only guess at the response of drivers desperately seeking a proper parking space in the South-East upon being told local residents interests must come first. What about the interests of those who deliver food to the local shops and services? Have the residents considered the alternatives... Like trucks parking in residential streets or on industrial estates? At a time when haulage is facing the biggest downturn in living memory, CM's advice to operators is tc do whatever it takes to keep the peace with your neighbours. Plant trees, sponsor Litter bins, kiss babies, listen to 'the other point of view', but don't get drawn into a costly row with local residents when you need to stay 100% focused on survival.

drivers felt that those who leapt to their defence did so uninvited. Don't believe us? Read this week's column from TruckNetUK community manager Rikki Chequer Yes, Clarkson's comments were offensive. And knowing what a truck can do in the wrong hands

. some of us shuddered at the onscreen mayhem. But this is one dog that refused to bark in the night. Could it be there are more important things to worry about? Brian Weatherley
