• British hauliers will have to wait an extra three months to find out if their claims for compensation arising from last year's dispute will be paid.

At the Anglo-French summit last week, French prime minister Lionel Jospin said all 900 outstanding claims will receive a reply "in the next three months".

However, the Freight Transport Association has denounced the statement: "They've had a

year to sort the claims out," it says. "Now is the time to see the colour of their money."

CI Reefer operators' association Transfrigoroute warns that the swift climb-down by French employers could lead to more strikes in future as drivers see an easy path to better conditions.
