UNDER the chairmanship of Sir James Baillie, the Government committee of inquiry has already taken a great deal of evidence. Submissions have been made on behalf of the National Joint Conciliation Board, Associated Road Operators, various other groups of employers, Scottish transport and trading interests, the road workers' unions, the railways, and the National Union of Railwaymen.

Among the suggestions for •the stabilization of wages and conditions so far put forward are the follow

C-licensees should observe the same wages and conditions as hauliers; (2) the Minister of Labour should be empowered to enforce the National Board's decisions for at least five years; (3) back pay should be recoverable; (4) the Board should be reconstructed; (5) autonomy for Scotland.

Earlier hearings were reported in the issues of " The Commercial Motor "dated October 2, 16 and 23.
