The rear-axle weight of four-wheeled pneumatic-tyred vehicles is not to be increased to 9 tons. This announcement is conveyed in a letter from the Ministry of Transport to the secretary of the British Road Federation.

Representations have, on several occasions, been made for an increase of the limit from 8 tons to I) tons, and it was proposed to embody the change in the consolidated Motor Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations. The letter from the Ministry, which is signed by Mr. A. T. V. Robinson, Stites:—

" The Minister has now considered the many representations made to him by manufacturing and other interests in the industry in regard to the conditions to which any such concession would have to be subjeet. In the light of these representations he has reached the conclusion that the existing maximum weight, which has been in force for many years, should not at present be altered."

C.M.U.A. West Midland Secretaryship.

West Midland Division secretaryship, which, as announced in The Commercial Motor ,a fortnight ago, has been rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr. G. A. Hotter, on his taking up a new position. Temporarily, Miss J. C. Durrant is carrying on the work as assistant secretary. under the supervision of Mr. G. F. Goodwin, Hanley Sub-area secretary.
