Road Haulage Association halved pre-tax toss in 2009
THE ROAD HAULAGE Association (RH.A) halved its pre-tax loss in the year to December 2009 to £860.358, despite seeing membership revenue drop by 9% to 15.9in and a /133,858 hit from the cancellation of last year's CV Show, which it co-owns.
Losses were stemmed by cost-cuffing measures introduced by CEO Geoff Dunning, which saw administrative expenses slashed by more than £1.5m to.L5Am. Most of the savings resulted from a restructure of the organisation that saw 12 staff made redundant and the elimination of overlapping head office functions.
"The start point for the restructure was that it was for the long term," says Dunning. "The principle was to bring together the three strands of the RHA — politics, commercial services and the trade association — into one business."
Dunning adds that while membership fell over the year. the RE-IA did better on retention of existing members, but less well on recruitment of new members: "If [hauliers] have a problem. we have the best quality advice available:'
The RHA is also campaigning on issues including the state of Britain's roads. enforcement, regulation and abuse of agricultural exemptions by farmers.
