Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

LAST WEEK, LIKE MOST WEEKS AT CM, started quietly and grew to a crescendo on press day, but there the similarity to other weeks ended — at least for some of us. The real problems began when the Eurovision Song Contest was reinstated to London at the Wembley Conference Centre. It was booked for Saturday, May 7 — arid the previous two days were booked by CM for the first-ever open recovery operators' conference.

The songbirds being a bit precious, need lots of security, it seems, and consequently our delegates were asked to move into the Esso Motor Hotel next door. It seems security is necessary only at the conference centre because by pm Friday the bars and foyer of the Esso made the Istanbul flea market look like a desert island. Not only did we have the Dream Express and "you know who" — all darling and ducks — but we also had Widnes Rugby League team and supporters. Add to that our 110 "wreckers" and you can imagine the chaos.

Strange thing was, none of the singers wer met won and Widnes went down to Leeds. That may put a jinx on the Esso but there's hope — we scored.

Yes, the conference was a great success and next year it is likely to be at an army site in Hants with much more to do. It was also our day on Friday when we received immediate and enthusiastic response for a new trade association for recovery men. Every applicant supported his application with a £25 deposit. More details of the association appear on our news pages.
