AlOTHER 43 vehicles ranging from light vans to I5-ton platform lorries, have been purchased by Mr. R. G. Bassett, Grayswood, Tittensor. They made up list 9 units.

Some of the vehicles have been made over to Bassett's Roadways, Ltd., of the same address, and a large number has been assigned to other operators.

The names of many other purchasers of vehicles from British Road Services are given below.

SCOTLAND The Scottish Licensing Authority has granted special A licences to: Muir's Transport, Ltd., Cupar, for four vehicles (12 tons); Mr. Thomas M. Gibb, Fraserburgh, two (6 tons); Mr, William A. McPherson, Archiestown, one (31 tons); Mr. George Smith, Invergowrie, one (3; tons); and Mr. Richard M. Christie, Aberdeen, an articulated outfit (41 tons). Central Garage (Batlippote), Ltd., Bathgate, have transferred three lorries: one

(5) tons) has gone to John Stamper and Co. (Haulage), Ltd., Penrith; one (3) tons) to Mr. John D. Bruce, Broxburn; and one 0 tons) to Messrs. West's Transport, Dunfermline.

One of four lorries' (12) tons) bought by Mr. Morris Young, Perth, has been assigned to Mr. Peter Halley, Crieff. It weighs 3 tons unladen. Moore's Motors (Ayr), Ltd., Ayr, have assigned a lorry (3 tons) to each of the following: Messrs. McKinley's Transport, Ayr, and Mr. William Wood, Glasgow. Mr. Douglas Montgomery, Dalbcattie, has taken over two lorries (51 tons) from Mr. E. Waters, Monkseaton.

NORTH-WEST Eleven articulated outfits with a total unladen weight of 1121 tons have been taken over by Contractors (Transport), Ltd.. Greg Street, Reddish, Stockport. Four of these have been transferred: two (22 tons) to Mr. G. T. Gordon, in the Northern Traffic Area; one (101 tons) to Mr. C. T. Wilson, in the East Midland Traffic Area; and one (8) tons) to Mr. Glyn Davies, in the South Wales Traffic Area,

A further 42 lorries and three trailers (172 tons) have been licensed to Mr. L. Gieave, Holly Bank. Audlem, near Crewe. Of these, 16 lorries and the trailers (751 tons) were sold to them by the Warrington Warehousing Co., 40a Ellesmere Road, Stockton Heath, two lorries, (6 tons) by Mr. J. W. Ratcliffe, 189 Wigan Road, Ashton-in-Makerfield, and one (31 tons) by A. and H. Davey (Roadways), Ltd., Vernon Road, Stoke-on-Trent. In turn, Mr. Gleave has transferred the following: one (5 tons) to Mr. H. Edwards, one (2/ tons) to Mr. J. S. Thomas, one (3 tons) to Mr. M. J. Parry, one (3 tons) to Messrs. Green's Transport, one (3 tons) to Mr. P. Heath, one (3 tons) to Mr. C. B. Harrison, one (3 tons) to Mr. E. Upton, and one (4) tons) to Messrs. J. W. and O. Warrington Warehousing Co. have also sold lorries to: Roberts Coaches, Ltd„ Martins Lane. Crewe (four-11 tons), and Mr. W. A. Matthewman, 4 Bolton Street. Bolton (one-5 tons).

YORKSHIRE

Two lorries have been purchased by Mr. E. Cooper, Corner Garage, Warrengate, Wakefield. Mr. J. D. T. Liversidgc. 55 Abbeydale Park Rise, Totley, Sheffield, who has also bought two, has transferred one to Mr. C. E. Corringham, 49 Earl Street, Grimsby.

One-vehicle purchases have been made by Mr. T. Fagan, 81 Ridgeway Drive, Sheffield: Mr. F. Amos, 375 Pudscy Road, Leeds, 13 (assigned by Jack Robinson 1Leedsl, Ltd., 7 Temple Gate, Leeds, 15); and Decorative Distributors (Bradford), Ltd.. Trafalgar Street, Manningham Lane, Bradford (assigned by Hackett's Haulage, Ltd., 229 Cross Lane, Safford). A lorry weighing 71 tons unladen has gone to W. Braisley and Son, Ltd., Old Potter Grange. Goole.

Mr. C. Grace, 4 Chapel Lane, South Elmsall, who has already transferred a large number of vehicles, has now assigned one (3 tons 4 cwt.) to Mr. M. C. Turabull, 30 Park Place, Lockerbie.

WEST MIDLANDS Mr. R. G. Bassett. Grayswood, Tittensor, has been successful with more tenders, this time for a total of 43 vehicles, all of which were advertised in list 9. The makes comprise Atkinson, Bedford, E.R.F., Foden, Maudslay and Thomycroft, types ranging from light vans to 15-ton platform lorries.

Some have been transferred to Bassett's Roadways, Ltd., of the same address: four have gone to H. Mason Transport (Stafford), Ltd., Eastgate Street, Stafford, and one lorry has been assigned to each of the following; Mr. H. Elkin, Fourways Garage, Milwich, near Stafford: Mrs. It Bedson (William Newton), 89 Chaplin Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent; Messrs. Plant and Evans 28 Audmore Road, Gnosall, Staffs; Mr, W. J. A special A licence for a lorry (2) tons) granted to Messrs. W. R. Hill and Sons, The Plough, Pontesbury, has now been revoked and the vehicle transferred to an ordinary A licence.

EAST MIDLANDS A further 47 lorries (253 tons 2 cwt.) have been licensed to Murphy Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Syston. -Twenty-Iwo of these (122 tons 8 cwt.) have been transferred to Murphy Bros. Fiveof the lorries (14 tons 13 cwt.) were sold to Murphy Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Syston, by Mr. J. Brindley, The Close, Sharnford, Hinckley, who has also transferred one (3) tons) to Mr. S. Washington, 38 Moor Lane, Bolehall. A lorry (6 tons 2 cwt.) was also sold to Murphy Bros, by Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough. . Six vehicles taken over by Mr. G. E. Johnson, Jessamine House, North Kelsey, Lincoln, have also been transferred. Two (6 tons 9 cwt.) have gone to Messrs. J. Bradshaw and Sons, Sturton-by-Stow; one (2 tons 19 cwt.) to Mr. D. F. Fox, College Farm, South Kelsey; one

(2 tons 19 cwt.) to Messrs. G. R. and F. M. Lea, The Gables, Northfield Road, Messingharri, Scunthorpe; one (3 tons) to Messrs. W. Staniland and Sons, Mill' House, Brigg; and a lorry and livestock s container (4) tons) to G. and C. Johnson (Claxby), Ltd., Jessamine House, North Kelsey, Lincoln. The lorry in this case has been re-assigned to J. Shacklock and Sons, Ltd., South Dale, Caistor.

Mr. J. Stapleton, Boston Road, Wainfleet Si. Mary, who has taken over a lorry (3 tons 4 cwt.) from Boston Stevedores (Tower Hill Transport), The Docks, Boston, has also bought two articulated outfits (10 tons 6 cwt.). Four lorries (33 tons 17 cwt.) licensed to James Gamble (Transport), Ltd., 62 Swains Avenue, Nottingham, were transferred by Mr. Arthur Rhodes, 261 Carlton Road, Nottingham.

One of three lorries (10 tons) has been sold to Mr. A. Hodgkinson, Longcliffe Garage, Brassington, by Mr. J. G. Handley, Mount Pleasant, Brassington. It weighs 31 tons unladen.

Badby (Daventry) unit 5930, comprising three livestock vehicles (7 tons), has been sold to S. W. Wreford and Sons, Ltd., Northampton. One of the vehicles has been transferred to Mr. F. Tarry, Northampton. EASTERN COUNTIES

A three-vehicle unit (5949) based at Manningtree has been acquired by Mr. W. H. Sexton, junr., Elmstead, near Colchester, Essex. The vehicles have a total unladen weight of 9 tons.

Turners (Soham), Ltd., 39 Hall Street, Soham, have acquired 10 articulated outfits (471 tons), and assigned one (41 tons) to Mr. W. M. Grays, address not known, and one (41 tons) to Hamblin's Suppliers, Ltd., 498 Melton Road, Leicester.

Mr. 0. C. Turner, Townsend, has taken over two lorries (6 tons) from Tufners (Soham), Ltd.

Six lorries and three trailers have been . made over to Orwell Roadways (Ipswich), Ltd., 10 Great Colman Street, Ipswich, by Mr. F. A. Houchell, of the same address. Mr. A. J. Last, Holly Grove, Neatishead, has assigned seven lorries and two trailers (231 tons) to F. C. Farrow Transport, Ltd., Frederick Road, Gorleston.

SOUTH WALES Five lorries (151 tons) and four livestock containers (71 tons) have been taken over by Mr. E. R. Forse, Kingsway Garage, Kingsway, Cardiff. It is his first purchase.

Syd. Jenkins Coal and Transport Co., Ltd., 49 Windsor Road, Newport, Mon, have bought five lorries (19 tons) and transferred them to: Mr. L. A. Burchill, Flambert House, Langstone, near Newport, Mon (one-31 tons); Mr. W. 11. Hall, Darren House, Heol-y-Cyw, near Bridgend, Ulm (one-4 tons); Mr. C. Williams, 4 Cemetery Road, Brynmawr (one-31 tons), and Waterhall Motor Transport, Waterhall Garage, Kenfig Hill, Glam (two-71 tons). Valley Carriers, Ltd., Grove Terrace, Penarth, whose purchase of transport units has been reported from time to time, have now transferred a lorry (41 tons) to Mr. T. J. Phillips, 9 Merthyr Road, Pontypridd, and one (31 tons) to Mr, E. Pile, 32 John Street, Trcharris. Messrs. S. G. Roach and A. WESTERN AREA

Mr. I. R. Dunkerley, High Street. Chipping Sodbury, has been successful with his tender for two lorries (8k tons).

One-vehicle purchases have been made by Mr. M. W. C. Street, School Muse, Dyclhe (3 tons); Doddington Transport Co., Bath Road, Old Sodbury (3 tons); Messrs. G. Pearce and Sons, Coxhill Lane, Potterne (31 tons); and Messrs. F. Pugsley and Son, Sundial, Wheddon Cross (4 tons 9 cwt.), A container has also gone to Messrs. Pugsley.

Messrs. R. and E. Curnow, 79 Meneage Street, Helston, whose purchase of three lorries (10 tons 9 cwt.) was reported in The Commercial Motor on February 4, have now formed a limited company, Curnows (Long Distance) Motor Trans

port Co., Ltd., at the same address. '

SOUTHERN AREA

Three lorries (8 tons) have been taken over by Mr. L. R..1. Bleach, Warbleheath, Levant, Chichester, in a first purchase. Another first purchaser is the concern of Messrs. ales Bros., 34 Reading Road, Fleet, who have bought one (3 tons).

Hill and Sons (Batley and Denmead), Ltd., Botley, Southampton, have acquired another lorry (71 tons).

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Twenty lorries (79 tons 6 cwt.) and four trailers, based in London, have been taken over by Mr. A. Cusick, 282 Frederick Street, Oldham, Lancs. One (6 tons 2 cwt.) has been assigned to Mr. C. N. Bentley, 38 Lawrence Avenue, London. N.W.7, and a trailer to F. W. Williams (Transport), Ltd., Ramnoth Road, Wisbech, Cambs.

Messrs, Woodcock and Son, Cross-keys, Headcorn, Kent, have bought their first transport unit. Based at Minster, Thanct (6117), it comprises a tipper (3 tons). Other new purchasers are: Cook and Webb, Ltd., 44 Guinions Road, High Wycombe, two vehicles (6 tons 19 cwt.); Mr. A. S. Jenkins, 49 Windsor Road, Newport, Mon, two (15 tons 2 cwt.), based at Dagenham; and Mr. D. F. Taylor, 6 Beauvalle, Ferdinand Street, London, N.W.1, one (2 tons 18 cwt.), assigned by Mr. J. W. The northern branch of Golding Hoptroff and Co., Ltd., Tower Buildings. Liverpool, have bought two lorries (6 tons 11 cwt.) based in London, and L. and P. Deliveries (Bermondsey), Ltd., 4-6 Partitt Road, London, S.E.16, one (5 tons 1 cwt.).

The South-Eastern Licensing Authority has granted special A licences to: Mr. R. J. Durrant, Ware Farm, Linton, Maidstone, for a lorry (41 tons); Mr. J. R. Innes, 23 Solomon Road, Rainham, one (31 tons); and Mr. L. C. Wraight, 8 Somerset Road, Ashford, one (2i tons) assigned by Mr. P. R Waters, Sunnyside, Wheeler Street,Frittenden.
