A S the Government have rejected the I-1 recommendation of Singapore City Council to form a transport board to take over the Singapore Traction Co., Ltd. (The Commercial Motor, April 30, 1954), the company have decided to plan ahead without reference to any possible acquisition, the chairman, Sir Thomas I. NO EVIDENCE, NO LICENCE DECAUSE of insufficient evidence, the I-) Metropolitan Licensing Authority last week refused a B licence to Mr. H. F. N. Dale, Crawley, who wished to carry goods Within a 20-mile radius. The future residential and industrial expansion of the town was referred to, but no supporting witnesses appeared.

The Authority observed that the applicant might have a case, and when Mr. Dale had the necessary evidence he could make a further application.

Objections were lodged by British Railways, British Road Services and seven hauliers.

BACK AFTER 20 YEARS

A COACH service is to be started by Sheffield United Tours, Ltd., between Sheffield and Liverpool on May 27. It will be the first for 20 years and will continue until September, with another period of operation at Easter. Travellers to the Isle of Man will benefit. The service leaves Sheffield at 6.45 a.m. and enables the morning boat from Liverpool to be caught after a 31-hour journey,
