ARTCO is to be revived. The annual general meeting of Associated Road Transport Contractors, Ltd., held in London last Saturday, was well attended by representatives from all over the country. It was agreed to resume operations at the point where they were interrupted by nationalization.

Founded in 1945, the primary object of Artco was to enable a network of services to be built up throughout Britain. Through the interchange of facilities, each member was able to offer customers a much wider service than was otherwise possible, yet each member retained his identity and full autonomy.

Qualification for membership is the holding of 100 £1 shares and the ability to give reciprocal facilities in the interchange of traffic, garaging, fuelling, repairs and so on.

Membership of the Royal Society for the Prevention cf Accidents is to be renewed, and a uniform bonus scheme is to be introduced. Additional facilities will include group insurance, joint advertising, agreed rates and standardized forms.

The following directors were appointed: Mr. M. W. Harris (Burrows Transport, Ltd., London): Mr. H. L. Walker (LayfieId Transport Services, Ltd., Stockton-on-Tees); Mr. G. A. GOMM (GOMM'S • Commercial Motors, Ltd„ Cardiff); Mr. P. J. Ayres (P. L Ayrcs and Son, Ltd., Wallingford); Mr. C. J. Nickolls (C. 1. Nickolls, Ltd., Folkestone); and Mr. T. McGawn (Messrs. McGawn's Motors. Ayr).

A third of the directors retire every year but are eligible for re-election. It was thought advi§ablc to increase the number of directors to nine, and the memorandum and articles are to be amended accordingly.

Mr. A. Cusick, of Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Manchester, and Mr. D. H. McVeigh, of McVeigh Transport, Ltd., Grimsby, are to stand for election to the board.

A further meeting will be called in two months to consider progress. There are vacancies in some areas for members.

Mr. 14. N. Inch is secretary. His address is 177 Sloane Street, London, S.W.1.
