STAFFORDSHIRE-BASED Abnormal Load Engineering (ALE) was awarded the job of transporting a 193-tonne replacement electrical transformer on behalf of the National Grid between Ellesmere Port and Stalybridge substation, taking a total of four days.

The transformer was placed on a 20-axle ALE girder-frame trailer, and momentum was provided by a Faun Koloss S and Faun Deutz Diesel with a combined power of 1,055hp and combined displacement of 41 litres. The overall length of the set-up was 76m, and its gross weight was a huge 320 tonnes.
