Without the increases, the department's deficiency for the coming year was estimated at £16.000. With the extra £25,000, it is hoped to transfer £9,000 to reserves. Of the 401 fare stages, there will be increases of Id. on 126 and 1,d. on 63, leaving 212 unaffected.

Sheffield Seeks Higher Fares: Sheffield City Council agreed last week to apply for a new fare structure involving an increase of id. on many fares on corporation buses. Fares between 4d. and 8d. would go up by Id. and the distance given for fares of 9d. and over would be shortened by half a mite. The increases would yield £205,000 in a full year, leaving a small working margin. Scottish Bus Fare Increase: Following the recent wage award to bus company employees, the Scottish Omnibus. Group said it would apply immediately" to the Traffic Commissioners to make fairly 'sizeable " fare increase 10 meet the pay rise.
