FIVE attractive single-decker buses have been introduced by West Hartlepool Corporation Transport to replace doubledeckers on service 2 (Park-Church Street) and 3 (West Park-Church Street). They are one-man-operated Leyland Leopards with synchromesh gearboxes and 45-seat front-entrance, central-exit bodies by Strachans (Coachbuilders) Ltd., Harnble, Hants, and have an overall length of 32 ft. When operating on these services
the new vehicles carry up to eight standing passengers, but are designed to carry 13 standees if operated with a conductor.
The bodies are built to the standard Strachans' specification employing mild steel framing, and finished externally in the West Hartlepool livery of pale dominion red and royal ivory, with black lining. The seats are upholstered with fluted red leather, and interior equipment includes fluorescent lighting.
