A 5-tormer Introduced; 3-ton and 4-ton models in Much Improved Form; A Tractive Unit for Use With a 6-8-ton Semi-trailer Also Available FOUR new models are announced by Diamond-T Motors, 414, London Road, Isleworth, Middlesex. They are a 5-lousier, which is an addition to the previous range,' a 4-tonner, replacing the 1935 3i-ton model, a 3-ton chassis which is an improved version of its similarly rated predecessor, and a tractor-unit for use with a semitrailer carrying 6-8 tons.
High bonnets, low-built cabs, streamlined windscreens and pointed radiator grilles give all these new machines a striking appearance. Their good looks are well backed up by comprehensive equipment, unusual items of which are the incorporation of a vacuum tank in the twin-windscreen-wiper system and the inclusion of a battery-operated electric clock among the instruments.
A noteworthy feature of the chassis is the increased rigidity of the fracaes. c64
On the long-wheelbase 5-tonner there are four alligator-jaw cross-members between the engine and back axle. The longitudinals, at their point of greatest section, measure 8 ins. by 3 ins, by in. They are strengthened, amidships, not only -by inserted channels, but also by a 12-in, deep flitch plate secured outside the members.
All models have two or three-piece propeller shafts, these being carried by one or twoTimken double bearings mounted in rubber in their housings.
A feature of the rear springs is that their back ends move in guides instead of being shackled. The spring pins are all rubber bushed.
The 5-ton and tractor models have 31.54 h.p. engines and the remainder 27.34 hop. units. These resemble their prototypes except for detiril improvements.
