XPORTS in March of 12,139 corn" mercial vehicles maintained the high level achieved since autumn last year, and brought the total overseas shipments for the first quarter of 1958 to 38,125. This compares with 31,052 for the first three months of last year and represents an increase of 22.8 per cent, although the comparison may be affected by the shipping difficulties occurring in early 1957 as a result of the Suez crisis.

During March, 32,011 goods vehicles, road-haulage tractors and special-type vehicles were produced, together with 182 battery-electrics, and the total passengervehicle output was 858. Weekly average output was 6,610 of all types, making 33,051 for the month.

Of the goods vehicles, road-haulage , tractors and special types, 17,066 were of under 15-cwt. capacity, 8,234 15 cwt.3 tons, 3,926 3-6 tons, and 2,785 over 6 tons. Of the passenger vehicles, 593 were single-deck and 256 double-deck motorbuse; and nine were trolleybuses.

In the three months ended March, 83,689 goods vehicles, road-haulage tractors and special-type vehicles were produced, made up of 43,989 vehicles of up to 15-cwt. capacity, 21,512 15 cwt.3 tons, 10,475 3-6 tons, and 7,713 over 6 tons.

There were also produced 491 batteryelectrics and 2,626 passenger vehicles, of which 1,882 were single-decker and 681 double-decker motorbuses, and 63 trolleybuses. Overall total for the three months was 86,806.
