MR. J. J. Bor.): has been elected a director of the British Aluminium Co., Ltd.

MR. J. R. BAKER has been appointed South Wales assistant district manager for the India Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd. MR. W. J. WILSON moves from the Plymouth depot to take over Mr. Baker's former area—north and east Devon and the Bude area of Cornwall.

SIR LEONARD SINCLAIR, chairman of Esso Petroleum Co., Ltd., completed 50 years' service with the company on June 8. He joined the company in Manchester in 1908 and held appointments in Birmingham, Preston, Bristol and London before being appointed a director in 1943.

SIR WA VEIL WAKEFIELD, M.P., Was last Saturday elected president of the -Industrial Transport Association. Vicepresidents are MR. J. 5. BROWN, MR. W. 6. GEE, MR.L. H. HOPKINS, MR. C. E. JORDAN, MR, T. V. REDsroN, MR. F. H. WELLS and MR. W. G. WIDNAIL. The chairman is MR. A. L. BAOLEY.

MR. G. W. ROSE has joined the board of Fisher and Ludlow. Ltd., as deputy managing director. He became general works manager of the Austin Motor Co., Ltd., in 1955. MR. J. R. MOORE has become quality controller of Fisher and Ludlow, and MR. W. H, DAVIS general works manager of the Austin Motor Co.. Ltd., at Longbridge, where MR. C. A. J. MONDAY is now chief body inspector. MR. R. D. NIVEN, formerly works manager of the Austin commercialvehicle division, is now production manager of the cars division.

MR. A. S. Dim, managing director of the Standard Motor Co., Ltd., and MR. M. WHITFIELD, general sales director, left on a world tour on Tuesday. They are to review markets and overseas assembly plants of the company in India, Australia and the Philippines. They will also visit Canada, America and Japan.

SIR ALEXANDER McCou was entertained at luncheon on Tuesday, his 80th birthday, by MR. J. C. QRIDLEY, chairman of Mobil Oil Co., Ltd., and his fellow directors. Joining Vacuum Oil Co., Ltd., in 1905, Sir Alexander has had a long and distinguished career in the oil industry. He was knighted in 1946.

R.H.A.—B.T.C. LIAISON THE membership of the licensing liaison committee of the Road Haulage Association and British Transport Commission—formation of which was reported exclusively in The Commercial Motor on May 30—is now known.

Mr. J. B. Mitchell, Mr. J. Turner and Mr. R. Morton Mitchell represent the R.H.A., and Mr. G. H. P. Beames (B.T.C. legal department), Mr. A. Jessop (railways) and Mr. E. G. Marsden (British Road Services) are the Commission's delegates. Mr. A. P. Stockwell (B.T.C.) is committee secretary.

OBITUARY

WE regret to record the deaths of MR. H. R. NEWMAN, MR. R. V. DOLBY and MR. H. F. BARRUS.

Mr. Newman, who was 70, was a director and secretary of Southery Transport Services, Ltd. His son is Exeter district manager of British Road Services. • Mr. Dolby was Midland divisional manager of the National Benzoic Co., Ltd. He joined the company in 1929.

Mr. Barrus was joint managing director of E. P. Barrus (Concessionaires), Ltd., and was 71. He came from America to London in 1922 to join his uncle, Mr. E. P. Barrus, to represent in Europe leading American tool companies.
