DRIVERS AT food distribution firm 3663 are waiting to hear if they will keep their jobs after the Oxonbased firm lost a £300m contract with the Ministry of Defence.

It is understood that 80 staff may be made redundant and a depot in Dundonald, Ayrshire, closed following the loss of the contract to deliver to UK defence forces around the world.

The company had made an unsuccessful high court challenge to the MoD's decision to take the contract elsewhere. Herts-based Purple Foodservice Solutions (PFS) will take over the five-year deal from 2 October.The company is a consortium comprising DBC Foodservice, Switzerland-based Supreme Foodservice, and meat and poultry supplier Vestey Group.

Peter Judge. managing director at DBC Foodservice, says the contract will create 390 new jobs at the company.

PFS will distribute fresh. chilled and frozen food to 1,200 UK military bases around the world.
