A SOUTH LONDON company has been tined £3,000 for using a vehicle without an 0-licence and permitting it to be driven by a driver holding the wrong licence.
First Choice Fabricators of the Railway Yard, London SW16, admitted the offences before the Marylebone magistrates. Anthony Ostrin,prosecuting for Vosa, told the court that a 7.5-tonne Leyland Daf driven by Selwyn Abdie and belonging to First Choice had been stopped at a roadside check.The vehicle was laden with steel and no 0-licence identity disc was displayed. Abdie held only a category B licence, which did not cover the use of the vehicle concerned, as it required a class Cl driving licence.
Enquiries revealed that First Choice Fabricators did not have an 0-licence and had permitted Abdie to drive without checking that he had the correct driving licence.
The magistrates fined the company £1,500 per offence and ordered it to pay prosecution costs of £148.
Abdie pleaded guilty to not having the appropriate driving licence. He was fined £25 and his licence was endorsed with three penalty points.
