SCOTTISH HAULAGE firm Pollock (Scotrans) says the closure of its Cheshire depot will help turn around its financial fortunes.
According to the company's latest set of accounts for the year ending 3 September 2005. the Sand bach operation was wound down in April 2005. Pollock says this operation was the "main contributing factor to the loss for the year".
The company made a loss of more than £250,000, compared to a profit of £117,000 the previous year.
As part of a bid to reverse its fortunes it will be reducing operations at its Musselburgh head office and consolidating them at its new flagship Bathgate site, says director Fraser Pollock. Not only will this save the company considerable operating costs, but income will be generated by leasing the Musselburgh site; a tenant has been found and a lease has been agreed." The company took out a new loan in 2004 for Et 7m. Interest on bank borrowings more than doubled from £68,494 to £146,782 in 2005.
However, the directors say they are confident that the firm's financial performance will have improved this year.
Last week CM revealed that Pollock may be affected by the closure of major customer papermaking firm Smith Anderson.
