Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

tAA REAR loading platform for a lorry forms the subject of patent No. 889,631. The novelty resides in the linkwork used; this can enable the platform to execute a parallel lift for crates and the like, or a tipping action for shovelling material from the ground. (Gesellschaft fiir Linde's Eismaschinen A.G., Wiesbaden, Germany.)

The drawing shows the linkage arranged for parallel lifting. The platform (l) is pivoted upon a pair of links (2 and 3) which are themselves pivoted on a frame bracket (4). This construction forms a parallel-ruler motion. A hydraulic ram (5) provides the lifting force.

When a tipping action is required, the two links (2 and 3) are detached and crossed over, and a shovel or bucket replaces the platform. The raising action then imparts a turning movement to the shovel, tipping it as it travels backwards over the body.

Other versions of the device include one for handling refuse bins and, in conjunction with a moving floor, a manure spreader.
