Albion Four-cylinder Diesel Changes

1 MPROVE1v1ENTS incorporated in Albion Chieftain and Victor goods chassis produced since May this year include a number to the four-cylinder diesel engine fitted in these models.

To give better cold-starting characteristics the starter motor has been redesigned and to provide the additional current required the battery capacity is now 81 amp.-hr. Also to heln cold starting, the compression ratio has been increased from 16 to 1 to almost 17 to I, the piston combustion chamber form has been altered and the injector nozzles have been modified to g:ve a symmetrical spray in the new chamber,

The current engine has a mechanically governed fuel-injection pump to overcome idling troubles experienced with the hydraulic governor employed previously, and other changes include better supports for the fuel pipes, a redesigned water pump, repositioning of the oil-pressure relief valve, the fitting of an A.C. oil filter with a replaceable paper element and an improved dynamo mounting.

Modifications have also been made to the clutch: the liner thickness has been increased by 50 per cent, and hydraulic operation is now used.
