Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Tire Renovations: Rubberine.

[2877] (Wessex).—Tiao company at Leicester about whom you inquire will probably be Tom Cann, Ltd. We hear good reports concerning the wear which Rubberine gives, and believe it will serve your purpose better than pneumatics.

Direct Despatch of Comforts.

f_2878.1 (Sister).--You can send out anything to your brother which does not weigh more than 56 lb. gross, so that, if your harmonium can be packed in a case which does not, when packed, exceed that weight, you will have no difficulty. You must stencil the full address twice on the case ; in addition, it is advisable to attach linen labels, similarly addressed, and bearing a description of the contents. You then consign it by railway to Southampton, care of the M.F.O., and pay the carriage as. far as Southampton.

Carriage Tax on Traveller's Brougham Carrying Samples. •

[2879] (Grimsby).—We note the experience. The decision of the Grimsby magistrate follows the decision of many Metropolitan police magistrates. It is entirely a question of the extent to which the vehicle has been constructed or adapted for the conveyance of goods or -burden in the course of trade, etc.. If the vehicle is capable of being used for other purposes, it does not come within the exemption. The presumption is that spare seats will be used to give drives to friends or customers.

Starting-up His Milnes-Daimler.

[2880] (Aberdeen)."--It is pretty obvious fleit the magneto cannot be at fault, as the substitution by you of another one did not get over the difficulty. We presume it is a, high-tension. magneto., and it is possible you may be getting a short., or it may not be earthing properly on the other part of your ignition. system. Are you absolutely. confident that the valve-setting is the saMe2 Have you actually started the engine, or have you failed to do so altogether ?

Some of the petrol which is being supplied at the present time is very-sluggish, and you might, getlover that by warming the intermediate part of the indoclion pipe. Have you tried squirting petrol into the cylinders, before winding?

The Best Body for Diverse Loads and Loading.

[2881] (Birmingham).—So far as our own experience goes, we think you will find it difficult to secure any better result for the two separate purposes you have in mind than by employing an ordinary lorry body, with sides anything up to 3 ft. 6 ins. high, fitted with a well-made removable. tilt and ridge pole, with the usual tarpaulin cover well fitted and easily taken off. It is possible, of course, that you may not consider that such a Coyer will afford sufficient protection from inclement weather for goods like your own proprietary production, although we ourselves have knowledge of the sufficiency of -a tilt cover like this, providing it is substantially made and carefully designed as to weatherProofness. We are not aware of any other method of providing. for the two classes of loading and carrying, short of the provision of two separate and interchangeable bodies, which presumably would in no way meet your requirements.

It is to be supposed that both classes of loads (those requiring the best protection, and others which it is usual to load and carry on an open platform) have to be taken indiscriminately, and with little. interval. There is just. the possibility that you might find that a stiffly-built box body, with side or end doors, and in addition with a large sliding roof-member, might " fill the bill " in so Tar as the sunoliers of raw materials wish to load from the top. This is on the assumption that the sacks and other packages have to be lowered from a warehouse floor, or similar storage. An arrangement of this kind is quite easily made by a competent coachbuilder, and it can with little difficulty be made perfectly weatherproof when closed.

Brakes Not Satisfactory.

[28S2] (Co. Down).—We cannot assume the responsibility of recommending you to fit an additional foot

brake on the existing shafting. We agree with you that the proper place for the two brakes is on the back wheels, but these, to ensure full advantage, should bear on separate drums ; otherwise, the advantage from separate heating is lost, apart from any risk of fracture of the drum.

Getting Drivers Back.

[2883] (Owner).—No ; you cannot get back a driver who has joined for immediate service. Our reference to the, success of the C.M.I.L.k. (issue of the 23rd December, page 332) concerned men who had enlisted under the Derby scheme and who are at the moment in B Army Reserve. scheme, desire was to convey to interested readers the point that, when such men are called up by proclamation for service, their employers are DOW entitled to " get them back." What will happen if Group 46 is called up, we are unable to statethe only exemptions which have been promised under the Derby scheme apply to putting men. who have valid claims into later groups. it is possible that, when Group 46 is reached, all or none in that-group will be taken. We do not care to propheAy in the matter. The position obviously depends upon so many factors, which cannot be either forecasted or foreseen. Had drivers not been added to the list of " Reserved Occupations," owners would have been without -remedy. Se„, also, under "Wheels of Industry."
