• Mobile-crane drivers must have a class-C LGV driving licence from the beginning of next year. Currently anyone can drive such cranes on a standard full driving licence. They can travel at average speeds of 30mph and can weigh up to 100 tonnes. The move is likely to affect around 3,000 crane operators thought to be without truck licences— there are no plans to offer grandfather rights For current crane drivers.
