Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

YORKSHIRE Traffic Commissioners have rejected an application bi a Bradford independent bus operator to run a stage carriage servio in Bradford.

Shaw's Coaches applied to run an evening service on a Bradford city centre circular route which had been cut by the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive as an economy measure during th e previous Conservative adminis tration of West Yorkshire Metrc politan County Council.

The new Labour-controlle administration had asked th PTE to reinstate a service short! before Mr Shaw had applied ft his licence. A new service e) tended to serve a large housin estate is now planned by th PTE.

The PTE contended that tw operators on the route woul confuse the public. Passenger would also have to pay more a Mr Shaw's service would not ir elude various PTE concessionar and prepaid fares schemes. IV Shaw planned to charge simile fares to those of the PTE.

For the PTE, Peter Fingret sai that Mr Shaw's plan to run hi service from 6pm would clas with four existing PTE buses an this would cause a waste of re sources.

It was also contended that th PTE could provide a better baci up service to prevent delays the case of vehicle failures.

The Commissioners consic ered that the public interes would be better served by grant ing the PTE application.

A spokesman for Shaw' Coaches told CM that an appee against the Commissioners' de cision had not been ruled out.
