Some years ago, the Auto Specialities Manufacturing Co. St. Joseph. Michigan, developed a service-brake system incorporating oil-cooler multi-plate wheel brakes. The oil is circulated by an engineor transmission-driven coolant pump through the brake units to a heat exchanger between the engine radiator and cylinder block.
Advantages claimed for the system include accurate control of temperatures under any conditions, reduced unsprung weight, automatic adjustment, a lining-material life of 300,000 miles and elimination of all maintenance during. the life of the linings.
