VIRST step in the execution of a plan extending to public service stations all over the country, the inauguration of a Redex " 10-minute fuel-economy and tune-up service," todk place last week at the premises of Messrs. Hubert Dees, Brighton Road, Croydon.
Promoter of the scheme is the Wayne V. Myers Co., Ltd., 57-58, Dolben Street, Londen, S.E.1, and the idea is to establish standardized servicing operations with a fixed scale of charges, to facilitate operators in availing themselves of the beneficial properties of the well-known oil additive, Redex, produced by the above-named company. We anticipate that this service will enjoy most popularity among operators of delivery vans and small fleets who are not equipped economically to perform themselves the work involved. Two specific services are scheduled. The " ten-minute " service costs, for light vehicles of 10 h.p. and over, 12s., and includes topping-up sump, gearbox and axle with Redex, treating fuel with Redex, cleaning valves by injection, fitting adapter to manifold (for testing purposes), and setting carburetter adjustment and ignition timing.
The " complete " service includes changing engine, gearbox and axle oils and flushing, fitting smaller main jet to carburetter, cleaning and setting sparking-plug and contact-breaker points, cleaning fuel pump and carburetter, the other tuning operations, etc., in the • shorter service, and giving an analysis of the condition of the engine. In this case., the charge for the work is a few shillings higher and the only other additional cost entailed is for the materials used.
